Hello,
One of my goals for the site and my business is for people to feel welcome and comfortable. My hope is that you will enjoy the time you spend here and want to return each day even if only for a brief moment or two. It would be my honor to have you choose my site and my work to be a part of your life.
I am a mother of four absolutely wonderful babies whom are now preparing for their lives outside our humble nest. My life will always be wrapped around whatever I can do for them, but as I perform my duty of nurturing nudging to help them discover themselves, I find it is time for me to share my focus on some things which I would like to do moving forward in life's adventures.
As I perceive it, the home is definitely where lies the heart. The home is where the heart loves, weeps, rejoices and grieves. It is a world within our world where we may feel safe, explore our creative sides, let people in and share our personal space, and surely even tap into our hidden handyman. The home is life celebrated through personal preferences, comfort and liveliness. We define our homes. It flows with unspoken statements about who we are, what we like, where we have been and where we are headed throughout our lives. I want your home to reflect you. If I can help bring a little bit about you or your history into your home for you to enjoy, then I have done my job.
My passions are many and varying in modes from Psychology, in which I have a Bachelor's degree, to reading (especially old English literature) to writing, to cooking to music and dancing to photography to decorating to refinishing furniture and the delicious and horrendous (have to take the good with the bad) shopping expeditions which coincide with those last two. I promise to share some of those stories at some point.
People intrigue me. I love to listen to their stories. I meet some very interesting characters out in the fields of thrifting. I enjoy engaging with people, and am very excited for all who should grace the front cyber-stoop of Lilac Shack. Please feel free to offer kind comments on my site or Facebook page, and I will always do my best to respond personally and quickly. If for some reason I am not able to, please understand it is neither neglect nor disrespect.
Most importantly, my faith in God is above all things, and I am grateful for all things which He has imparted to me.
I wish you a good day now, and please know I would be humbled by and very appreciative of having your company here whenever you would be so obliged.
Here are a few spilled beans about me:
Favorite color: Patina - then all the rest (I'm partial to red and yellow) because I don't like to pick one over the
other
Favorite clothing style: Casual Romantic - then all the rest
Favorite shoes: A sassy stiletto over 3 inches high - then all the rest
Favorite food: Pasta and bolognese sauce - then pretty much everything else except red meat
Favorite book: The Bible - then any good literature
Favorite place: Where else? Home! - Then libraries-I love the scent of print and old books, an antique shop or
estate sale, under a willow tree, the beach, lake, barns and classrooms. I'd be a career student if
possible and hope to attend graduate school.
Favorite things to do: Watch my kids grow and change and do their things - then decorate, create, write, read, I
find the simple things glorious.
Favorite flower: Dandelions and roadside weeds - then lilacs, daisies, lilies, roses, Queen Anne's lace, anything that
blooms
Favorite scent: Honeysuckle (besides print and old books) - then musk and spices
Favorite memory: Fishing and filleting them with my grandfather in the Cape - then too many to list
Favorite Scripture: Such a hard one to answer because so many are so perfectly beautiful. Psalm 42:1 speaks
my heart to God as I try to live my life through, in and with Him. "As the hart panteth after
the water brooks, so panteth my soul for thee, oh God."
There you have me. A little bit of me anyway, summed up in a few silly sentences.
Kara
