As a brand Blogger for Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co., I was given the products to refinish this piece. I adore OFMP and stand by the brand, and as such all opinions are my own.
This vintage vanity with attachable mirror set is exquisite and required an exquisite dressing. Old Fashioned Milk Paint is a wonderfully exquisite paint that is always up to peak performance especially for that authentic antiqued, crackle and chipped finish. And it did not disappoint as usual. I chose to lighten and brighten the piece which would accentuate all the lovely detail and curvaceous structure. I opted for Old Fashioned Milk Paint's light cream. To enhance the depth of tone of the paint, I used Daddy Van's wax. I wanted some chipping, but not bunches of it. To achieve a more stable adhesion, I added OFMP's Extra Bond which is an additive to the paint. There were a few select areas I had a feeling would still chip and sure enough, they did-thankfully. I also wanted the finish to be just a touch translucent, showing the undertone of the wood beneath. After three to four coats of the light cream, I had my desired effect and it was delectable. For the top surface which will get much use, I decided to go with a sturdy top coating of Safecoat Acriglaze by OFMP. This is a completely clear, matte, stable top coat that offers excellent protection and will not yellow the pale paint as an oil based polyurethane will. First, I mixed the powder paint with water then added the extra bond stirring until most lumps were diminished. After the necessary coats were dried, I hand rubbed the Daddy Van's wax with a cotton cloth all over the body. The last step was to coat the top twice in the Safecoat Acriglaze for colorless and excellent protection. The bottom two photos show the difference for coverage between the second and third coats. After all was mixed, stirred and brushed and swiped, here is the bodacious and curvaceous sweetest little thing to store and display your precious items-- I added baskets where there was a drawer missing, new diamond cut glass knobs on the doors and the caining stool is available to place with it.
