I am a die hard brusher. However, because of this, I have a love hate relationship with spindles and such styles. I recoil at the thought of refinishing chairs and other like pieces using my trusty brush method. It is tedious, laborious and aggravating. Yet, I love chairs and have many in stock as well as an antique spindle bed to redo. I have often been tempted to try a sprayer, but opted out because I thought they would be complicated to use and clean. Then in steps HomeRight with their HVLP sprayer. Finally, the impetus to actually give it this a shot.
My initial pull of the trigger was a bit of a sham. Air just blew with intermittent tiny particles of paint like ultra mini polka dots. I actually kept at it like this thinking uh-oh until I remembered something rather important from the instructions. I adjusted the tension and wham paint came whooshing out in a lovely streamlined spray. I was cruising painting this rocking chair. I did have to adjust my angles and my speed for roaming over the chair to completely cover it. But it was fun and fast. And clean was a cinch. I watered my dying grass with it while cleaning the nozzle.
I have a new attitude toward refinishing chairs since I have a little helper now and just may get through the many I have stashed. I still like a brushed look and can easily glide over the sprayed base if that is the look I would like to achieve. If not, I have a great way to cover a piece in paint which would otherwise take hours of back-breaking, neck-straining, nerve-testing brushing.
