It's a-comin'
This one has taken me a looong time but... It's a-comin'

Besides a fairly steady hand, to get decent straight lines especially in tight spots, invest in one of these: They are pretty much a one-hit wonder, but that little foam brush is worth every penny of that quarter you will spend on it. Keep the paint on one side only and as you glide along your strip you won't get the backlash from the backside all over your trim.
Another tip is do not stare too intently at where your brush is on point. Like walking with a full cup of hot coffee, look straight ahead not at the sloshing liquid inside or it'll be splattering the floor in front of you. Same basic idea here with the painting. Watch where you're going a bit ahead of the brush. Staring directly at it has only led me to wobble and bobble it. Once that happens, you will have a little bobsled action, the brush ricocheting of one side of the narrow lane then the other as it travels down the track. Your line will wind up rippled and wavy. You will then begin the process of covering it up which inevitably leads to a cycle of swerving fixes which leads to terrible frustration which leads to giving up and painting your piece all the same color. Like I did today. Eh, it happens. See my problem here. Too many perfect scenarios. I used this dark hunter green as a custom mix on the small blue cabinet last week. I am excited to use it as it is, especially for a deep autumn feel. Plus it's just very pretty.
Black is stately and commanding which this desk is both of those things. The grays are softer but just as present as the deeper tones. And the pale yellow, well I'd do everything yellow if I could. I want to highlight the subtle detail of the trim so I actually need to use two colors. And let's not forget how the body color will determine what happens to the hardware.... So....what'll it be? Eenie Meenie is too easy to cheat with, so I have to just bite the bullet and pick. Excuse me now while I cross my fingers behind my back and promise a color to it. |
